WHY I DO THIS

In my NHS work as a Prison Doctor, I meet men every day who are struggling

Not because they're weak, not because they don't care - but because life has been hard and they haven’t received the care they need

Men who have been ‘getting on with it’ for so long that they've stopped believing things can be different

What I've learned from years of sitting facing men in difficult circumstances is :

When you give a man a space where he genuinely feels safe, heard and not judged - something starts to change

He doesn’t feel like he has to put on a brave face

And when a man is honest about what's really going on - that's when the work can begin

Most of the men I work with don't have a health problem because they're lazy or weak or don't care about themselves

They have a health problem because they haven’t had the right support at the right time

That's what I would like to change !
